Supporting learners with additional needs

Partners in Education Ethiopia is committed to making learning accessible to as many children as possible. Across 11 of our primary schools, we provide inclusive classrooms and individualized support for students with visual, hearing, or intellectual disabilities — ensuring they receive the tools and attention they need to thrive.

In many rural Ethiopian communities, children with disabilities face barriers to education ranging from stigma to a lack of resources and trained teachers. Without specialized support, these children are often excluded from classrooms entirely. Our program helps bridge this gap by providing dedicated learning environments and teacher training.

Our approach

Students who require additional learning support continue in these specialized classes until they’re ready to transition into mainstream education — usually by Grade 5. Teachers are trained through our comprehensive capacity-building program, which includes methods for inclusive instruction and adaptive materials.

Thanks to donations from ISEE-urk and the Kalamalka Rotary Club, our classrooms are equipped with learning tools and resources that meet a wide range of needs. Students also receive life and vocational skills training — such as basket weaving and craftwork — to help them gain independence and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
