My name is Abel Feleke Alemnew. I am 14 years old and I am currently a 7th grade student at Yekatit 23 Primary School, which is one of the Project WISE target public schools. Although I am not a member of the male student MH (Menstrual Health) club, I have heard about the natural process of girls' monthly bleeding from my male friends.
One day, during our exams for Amharic, English, and Art, something unexpected happened. We had successfully completed our Amharic exam and were on taking the English exam.
Realizing what had happened, I quickly took off my jacket and wrapped it around her lower waist. Unfortunately, she was not wearing pants and did not have any sanitary pads with her. Since the English exam was almost over, she went straight home wearing my jacket. I walked with her to her house to ensure she was okay and to retrieve my jacket. During this time, I did my best to help her avoid any embarrassment or frustration.
Later that afternoon, she returned for the Art exam with confidence, now wearing a pad. I was very happy with how things turned out, and many schoolmates and teachers appreciated my actions.
Bethelem had this to say about the incident, "That day, he saved me. I was shocked when I found myself in that situation among many students. But thanks to Abel, nothing happened during the day."
[1] Bethlehem Hailu Alene is the name of the menstruating girl. She is 14 years old and shares the same class with Abel.
